Friday, November 11

8:00 AM - 10:00 AM: The Ocular Adnexa. Optometry's Next Frontier, COPE 77853-TD, Selina McGee, OD, FAAO (2 hours)
Eyelids are the curtains to the windows of the soul. The eyelids are affected differently than any other skin found on the body by numerous disease and aging processes. From lumps and bumps to rhytids and drooping, this course will talk about the what, why, and most importantly how we as optometric physicians can help our patient's eyelids.

10:15 AM - 12:15 PM: Therapeutic Approaches to Presbyopia Management: The Dawn of a New Age, COPE 77513-GO, Selina McGee, OD, FAAO (2 hours)
Presbyopia correction options have broadened from spectacles and contact lenses to therapeutics and IOL's. For the 128 million Americans with presbyopia that is great news! For the 60,000 ECP's it's an opportunity to elevate our patients one presbyope at a time. This course will review what is available, what's new and what's coming so that practitioners can leverage presbyopia to not only help patients optimize their vision but to educate patients as well.

Put on your sleuthing hat for peek inside the beauty products, enhancements and procedures you're patients may be utilizing. Uncover what could be helpful or harmful to your patients and their ocular surface.

I will present recent findings from the literature that connect systemic and psychological conditions to ocular health and disease.  In addition, I will discuss relevant findings from my current research that link systemic illnesses to ocular pathologies  found in the veteran population.

Arghavan Almony, MD
Southern Pines, NC

Arghavan Almony, M.D. joined Carolina Eye Associates in 2012 and is a specialist of the retina, macula and vitreous. Her specialty includes the treatment and surgery of diseases affecting the back of the eye, including diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, retinal detachment, macular hole, and epiretinal membrane (macular pucker). Dr. Almony graduated cum laude from the University of Southern California. She received her medical degree from the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California and completed her residency training at Washington University in St. Louis. Dr. Almony received her fellowship in diseases and surgery of the retina and vitreous from Barnes Retina Institute and Washington University in St. Louis. Dr. Almony has published over 25 peer-reviewed ophthalmology articles and continues to be involved in national studies and clinical trials. Her research has been presented at over 50 national and international conferences. She is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, is a fellow with the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a member of both the American Society of Retina Specialists and The Retina Society. She is a proud mother of 3 children. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking, rock climbing, and yoga.

Selina McGee, OD, FAAO
Edmond, OK

Dr. Selina McGee is Founder and Owner of BeSpoke Vision, a boutique private practice that offers patients a wide range of optometric care via its dry eye center of excellence, specialty contact lens clinic and aesthetics suite. She is a renowned national and international speaker. She is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Northeastern State University College of Optometry. She is on faculty at The Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation. She currently serves as Vice President for the Intrepid Eye Society as well as Trustee on the SECO Board.  She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and a Diplomate of the American Board of Optometry, and is Past-President of the Oklahoma Association of Optometric Physicians. She has dozens of publications to her credit that have appeared in Modern Optometry, Optometry Times, Review of Optometry, and Optometric Management.  She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology (where she graduated Summa Cum Laude) and Doctor of Optometry (also Summa Cum Laude) from Northeastern State University College of Optometry.

Sara Toomey, OD

Dr. Sara Toomey, a Florida native, moved to North Carolina in 2021 to join the Triangle Visions Optometry team. After graduating from the University of Florida in 2013 (Go Gators!), she went on to complete her doctorate of Optometry from Nova Southeastern University, and then a residency in Ocular Disease at The Bascom Palmer Eye Institute at the University of Miami. She enjoys time spent with family in her new home of Charlotte, North Carolina. 


Renzo, Zaldivar, MD

Dr. Renzo A. Zaldívar trained in ophthalmology at the Mayo Clinic, completed a year of ophthalmic pathology at Emory University in Atlanta, and two additional years of Oculofacial plastic and reconstructive surgery at the Mayo Clinic and University of Minnesota. His unique training has granted him recognition and membership into the prestigious American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons (ASOPRS; www.asoprs.org). This society, founded in 1969, was established to recognize surgeons who have training and experience in this unique field. There are fewer than 600 national and international members. In addition to rigorous training, membership into the society requires the presentation and acceptance of a formal thesis, plus successful passage of both written and oral examinations. Dr. Zaldívar has authored over 20 publications including book chapters and journal articles. He is frequently asked to lecture locally and nationally. Since 2009, Consumers’ Research Council of America has listed him in America’s Top Ophthalmologist. Well respected by his peers and colleagues, Renzo has mastered the art of patient care. Dr. Zaldívar spends his time  carefully crafting an individualized and customized treatment plan for his patients. Recently, Dr. Zaldívar was given the honor to join the University of North Carolina’s Department of Ophthalmology as a clinical assistant professor. As part of his commitment to serve North Carolina’s patient population, Dr. Zaldívar has devoted his time to care for our nation’s veterans, and travels to the Fayetteville Veteran’s Hospital to serve our nation’s heroes. When not practicing Oculofacial surgery, Dr. Zaldívar enjoys traveling, sports, golf, and spending time with his wife and two children.
